Katy Alexander has a Bachelor of Arts in Drama Honours from Wits university, and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Library and Information Science from the University of Johannesburg. She started working at the Johannesburg Public Library in 1985, first in the indexing department, and then for the reference library and various branch libraries, including the Hillbrow Library.
She has 35 years’ experience as copy writer and editor, sub editor, knowledge manager, librarian, marketing and communications manager, fundraiser, donor liaison and project manager. Career highlights include creating all the Gauteng Government Service Directories from 2005-2010, helping manage and create the delivery of the first African Peer Review Mechanism Report in 2006, and producing all the Annual Reports for READ Educational Trust from 2009 to 2022.
As a librarian, she is passionate about the delivery of library services for local communities. Libraries and librarians provide a cultural, educational, and community building service which cannot be replicated by access to the internet.
